HELLO and happy Saturday night! With the big cover reveal coming soon, I thought you might like to see the characters in the second episode of Twisted Fate! So, without further ado, here they are! Zarah- a Native American spirit shifter who learns her animal is a rare spirit bear (white in color, standing the size of a grizzly and contains magical powers like no other)Chad- A blonde wolf shifter.Kuruk- also known as Kink. A Native American bear shifter... who happens to be a bad boy on a motorcycle...Good evening! I am busily readying to write the next installment in the Breaking Protocol series and have ran across a few facts I hadn't shared. In Broken Battlefield, Mended Hearts, there are a few scenes that came from real experiences from my husband serving. Let's take a look:
There is a scene where the team is driving through the terrain and having to keep the humvee from getting high centered. This entire scene- from the views to the treacherous drive came from 2nd deployment in Afghanistan. One minute they would be in the sandy deserts, the next in gorgeous lush forests and mountains. It goes on to say they rolled into a brush field of marijuana plants... again true. Hubs and his platoon drove into a huge pot field that had plants well over their heads and stocks the size of trees. The buds were as described- bigger around than a coke can and longer than their forearm. With opium and hash being a major export in Iraq and Afghanistan and used by most of the locals, it grows plentiful. During raids, they would find buildings full of hash bricks as far as the eye could see. In most cases, weapons were included into the mix and the guys were instructed to destroy it. When they went on search missions, nine out of ten houses held stock piles of ammunition, weapons, and explosives shoved under beds, in floors and secret compartments. Most of what they found were American made. The realization that not all of it could be condoned as confiscated from troops is frighting. Our country sells weapons to the very people we go to war with. What the hell? People so dead set on making a buck are taking the lives of the men and women in which fight for their freedom. There are so many startling facts that most of the population doesn't know, and our soldiers are instructed to keep under wraps. Scary, right? Moving on, in the scene where Jared gives Vice some of the candy stash that Bella and the kids hid in his bags and gear- Every deployment the kids and I would get a ton of candy and hide fire balls and other candy as well as little notes in socks, pockets, and anywhere we could. That way, every time he changed clothes, he would have a little piece of home and know that we loved him. He of course shared most of the time, except the little love notes and drawings from the kids, which made us popular with the unit. When I packed care packages, I made sure to add extra cookies and treats for everyone. Earlier in the story before they left, Jared told Bella to play his song to her every day, being Nickelback's Love Me When I'm Gone. This was something my hubby did every trip. I cry every time I hear the damn song even now. There are so many things I used in this series and will continue to throughout.... Here is an excerpt! Excerpt from Bounty of Her Heart Stealing a Pirate's Heart Book Three By Jessica Anderson Celestia just finished packing her stuff for the voyage with her grandfather when she heard a knock at the front door. She opened the door, looking the man up and down who stood before her. She had never met him before, but he was absolutely gorgeous. His hair was a light brown in color but his eyes were what drew her, they were a dark mystifying blue. He smiled, adding to his already stunning good looks, “Does Aaron live here? I was told this was where I could find him.” The deep sultriness of his voice had goose bumps forming all over her body. “He’s actually on the ship right now, but I can take you there,” she answered, smiling. He must be a new crewmember, but he sure doesn't look to be a pirate, she shrugged internally at her thought. He was almost left speechless at the sight of the beauty that stood in front of him. She had dark hair that seemed to flow. Her eyes were amber colored and her lips were full and luscious, like a rose fresh in bloom both in color and in beauty. I hope she isn’t one of the wenches the pirates always go after. She stared at him and he realized he hadn't answered her, “Yes, I need to see him, it’s important.” He hadn't taken his eyes off her since she opened the door. Celestia grabbed her bag and swords, then carried them out to the rowboat that was waiting for her. The man paused briefly when he saw her swords but continued to follow her. Once they reached the rowboat, she rowed them to the ship. When they reached it, she climbed the rope ladder, and the man was right behind her. She hugged Ayden as he walked up to her when she reached the deck. “Grandfather, have you seen Aaron, this man has been looking for him?” she asked. “Gabriel?” Aaron questioned, dropping everything that was in his hands at the time as he joined them on the deck. “Stop calling me that! It’s Gabe,” he said, sounding angry. “What are you doing here, and where is your mother?” Aaron asked as he approached him. “She died, her new husband beat her to death,” he answered, not wanting to talk to his father more than he had to about his mother. “I guess that explains why you are here,” Aaron returned, the sorrow written on his face. “I’m sorry, lad.” “What am I supposed to do?” he asked. "I couldn't stay in that house a minute longer." “I don’t know. You can stay at my place, I’m getting ready to go back out to sea right now,” Aaron answered as he started to walk away from him. His son. His blood and the man wanted nothing to do with him. He had only come because he had nowhere else to go. “Of course, my own father wants to just leave. I should have expected that since you weren’t in my life for over twenty years,” Gabe said as he started to walk toward the edge of the ship. Turning back around to face his son, Aaron yelled, “You were the one who told me that you wanted nothing to do with me. What am I supposed to do!?” “Aaron, let’s wait for another day or so,” Ayden returned, trying to calm the situation. “That way you have time to think about what you two are going to do.” “I’ll have to clean up the spare bedroom a bit,” Aaron answered and started toward the barracks. “I guess I will take him back, mother was making lunch if he’s hungry,” Celestia said as she started climbing down the rope ladder. Gabe following suit. They got in the rowboat and she rowed them back to shore as soon as he was seated. When they reached the shore, she smiled at him as she got out of the rowboat. “I’m sorry your mother died. So you are Aaron’s son?” she questioned, trying to break the awkward silence. “If you want to call it that, I guess,” he answered, sparks could have flown there was so much bite to his words. “I am Celestia,” she said, trying to change the subject. “I’m Gabe,” he answered. “Why were you going aboard a pirate’s ship, you’re not a wench are you?” She looked at him, squinting her eyes, insulted, then walked faster toward the house with her fists balled, glancing down at her clothing, she didn’t think she look like a whore. What nerve of the man!! Gabe tried to shrug it off, but he knew he was out of line with that statement. “Wait!” he yelled, running after her. “I’m sorry. That was rude.” “Yes, it was very mean,” she returned as she turned to face him but crossed her arms over her chest. “Why should that concern you anyways?” “I’ve never seen a woman with a pirate unless they were a wench,” he answered, looking at the ground and kicking some dirt with the tip of his boot. “Well I’m not, the Captain of that ship is my grandfather,” she answered. “My mother used to captain the ship by herself,” she bragged as she opened the door to her house, reluctant on inviting him in. “I really am sorry,” he repeated. “You better be,” she returned, finally opening the door all the way for him. He smiled at her, loving how confident she was. She was beautiful but the way she carried herself just added to that beauty. He might just have to stick around a little longer than he planned on. “Celestia!” Cassie yelled as she came into the room. “I thought you were leaving.” “No, Mother, grandfather postponed for a few days,” she answered. “Go get dressed for lunch. Who is this young man?” she asked, smiling kindly as she noticed the young man with Celestia. “He’s Aaron’s son,” Celestia answered as she started to head out the back door to her house. “Celestia!” Austin yelled. “What, Father?” she asked. “That wasn’t a very good introduction,” he returned, cocking an eyebrow at his daughter as she walked back into the room. “Gabe this is my mother, Cassie, and my father, Austin. Mother, Father, this is Gabe.” “Thank you, sweetheart,” Austin said as he looked at the man who couldn’t seem to keep his eyes off his daughter. “Are you staying? Do you need a place to sleep. I know Aaron’s house is a little messy right now.” Gabe smiled. “I suppose I could stay a day or so. Thank you,” he answered. “I can show you to our extra room, since Celestia moved out we have one again,” Austin said. Gabe looked back and forth between Austin and Cassie, shocked how Celestia seemed to have gotten the best attributes from each of her parents. She was absolutely stunning. He followed Austin down a hallway in silence until Austin opened the door and walked in closing it behind Gabe as soon as he was in the room. “Lad, sorry to be so abrupt but, you hurt my daughter and I will carve her name into your heart,” Austin said with his expression going fierce, then turned, opened the door, and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Gabe smiled. How could he even tell he was attracted to her? Was it that obvious? He laid down on the bed and smiled. The man never said leave his daughter alone, he just said don’t hurt her.
